Step 1: A clay pot or dish is the best choice for repotting. Make sure your pot has holes at the bottom for water to drain out of. Your soil should be a mixture of potting soil and sand.
Step 2: Experts suggesting putting a layer of stones at the bottom of the pot to ensure good drainage, and a layer of moss over the stones to prevent the soil from washing through the drain holes.
Step 3: Once you have removed the plastic from the cactus you can place it gently into your pot. Fill the rest of the pot up with your soil and sand mixture.
Step 4: Once you have planted your cactus, place some stones on the top of the pot for decoration. Remember that your cactus needs lots of sunlight so be sure to place it at a window that gets lots of light.
All about cacti
- Cacti are relatively easy to grow. Most will tolerate neglect but thrive when given good care.
- Most cacti grow quite slowly as household plants, usually only a few inches a year. They can also live for many years.
- Too much water and insects are their main problem.
- Check whether your cactus needs water by sticking your finger as deep as possible into the soil. Always let the soil dry out completely before you water it again.
