Make Over An Old Bookshelf

Rather than getting rid of old furniture and buying expensive new pieces, it’s a nice idea to restore and refurbish them – and it’s not even that hard to do! Just follow these easy instructions:

You Will Need:

  • Sandpaper – medium and light grade
  • Primer
  • Paint (preferably PVA)
  • Thinners (if necessary to clean brushes)
  • Paintbrushes
  • Old bookshelf

Method:

  1. Use the medium grade sandpaper to sand the bookshelf to remove any old paint and varnish.
  2. To smooth finish all surfaces, use the lightest grade of sandpaper.
  3. Wipe the bookshelf with a dry cloth to remove all the excess dust.
  4. Brush on one coat of primer; allow to dry.
  5. Paint the bookshelf with the chosen colour; allow to dry.
  6. Finish off with a second coat of paint.

Enquire at your hardware store about which paint and primer will be the best combination.
