How To Fix A Broken Door Handle And Lock

Your door handle may be broken or maybe it’s just time for a change – whatever it is, you can change both door handles and their locks yourself. It doesn’t have to cost you much, just a little bit of time. If possible, take the old lock set with you when you’re buying a new one, or take along the following information:

• type of lock
• size of the rim
• distance from the edge of the door to the centre of the doorknob
• thickness of the door
• direction the door opens – inward or outward

Then it’s time to get started…

You Will Need:

• screwdrivers – flat or star
• new lock set

What To Do:

Step 1: Remove all visible screws off the face plate and door handle.
Step 2: Take off the door handle and remove the metal bolt from the lock set body.
Step 3: Remove the old lock set body from the door and replace with new one.
Step 4: Repeat steps working backwards.
