Beer pot bread

Home-made bread isn't difficult to prepare and it has a personal touch. This is one of our favourite recipes that is great for the weekend when there's a good chance you'll be popping some boerewors on the braai.

700g self-raising flour
60ml white onion soup
15ml chopped chives
15ml chopped parsley
2ml mixed herbs
100g cheddar cheese, grated
680ml beer

1. Combine the flour, onion soup, herbs and cheese. Stir in the beer.
2. Turn into an old cast-iron casserole dish and place in the centre of the grid over a fire.
3. Cover and bake for about 35 minutes.
4. Allow bread to cool for about 10 minutes before turning out and serving with plenty of butter.
