Meatballs in tomato sauce

Food is so expensive nowadays and when you have to feed a lot of people it can get really expensive. This tasty recipe is the solution – it feeds six people for less than R60 and is a great winter meal. Plus, the kids will love it.
2 tbsp oil
2 spring onions, finely chopped
500g beef mince
1 egg
2 tbsp flour for dusting
400g canned tomatoes
1 tsp ground cumin
1 tbsp tomato puree

1. Put the oil in the pan, add the spring onion and cook for five minutes until soft. Set aside to cool. 
2. Put the mince and half the onion into a large bowl. Whisk the egg and add it to the meat and onion mixture. Season and mix everything together with your hands or a fork.
3. Divide the mixture evenly into balls. Sprinkle with flour on a plate and roll the balls in the flour. Chill for 10 minutes.
4. Heat the remaining oil in the frying pan, add the meatballs and cook for five minutes without moving them. Using tongs carefully turn them over and cook for another five minutes.
5. Mix the tomatoes, cumin and puree and remaining spring onions together and add to the pan. Cover and cook gently for 25 minutes until the meatballs are cooked.
6. Serve over spaghetti or pap.
