Old-fashioned baked beans on toast

You can either whip up a big batch of these home-made baked beans or simply buy a can or two and serve it on some warm, toasted bread. It's the ideal Friday night dish when the last thing you feel like doing is cooking. To make it a little fancier you can add some bacon bits and grated cheese.


500ml beans, cooked
1 small onion, diced
200ml water
½ cup tomato sauce
15ml mustard powder
50ml brown sugar
250g cooked bacon, chopped
5ml salt
2ml black pepper
30ml wine vinegar

1. Preheat the oven to 180ºC.
2. Mix together all the ingredients and spoon the mixture into an ovenproof dish. Bake for one hour.
3. Serve on slices of warm, buttered toast.
