Beer pot bread

Home-made bread isn't difficult to prepare and it has a personalised touch. This is one of our favourite recipes that is great for the weekend when there's a good chance you'll be popping some boerewors on the braai.

Ingredients:
700g self-raising flour
60ml white onion soup
15ml chopped chives
15ml chopped parsley
2ml mixed herbs
100g cheddar cheese, grated
680ml beer

Method:
1. Combine the flour, onion soup, herbs and cheese. Stir in the beer.
2. Turn into an old cast-iron casserole dish and place in the centre of the grid over a fire.
3. Cover and bake for about 35 minutes.
4. Allow bread to cool for about 10 minutes before turning out and serving with plenty of butter.
